Lakes of Canada + Olenka & The Autumn Lovers+ Oh My Darling + Motel Raphael

September 22nd / 8:30 pm / Petit Campus (Salle STM) / $10

Lakes of Canada performs with three other acts, September 22nd at Petit Campus (part of Café Campus: 57 rue Prince-Arthur E., coin St. Dominique). The band started up in Montreal in 2010, when BFFs Conor O’Neil and Jake (“Freakin”) Smith began performing Jake’s songs as a duo. They’ve been described as “a cross between Fleet Foxes and Simon & Garfunkel,” citing influences such as The Beach Boys, Sufjan Steens, Fiona Apple, and Freddie Mercury. The five band members play dozens of instruments among them, including cello, organ, harp, flute, piano, guitar, ukelele, sleighbells, glockenspiel, banjo, mandolin and drums. Sidenote: as was mentioned in this week’s Gazette article on POP’s new comedy feature, the self-identified half-Catholic, half-Jewish Smith also sings in the choir at Congregation Shaar Hashomayim in Westmount.
